Rug Care Guide
Vacuum weekly without a beater bar, blot spills straight away with a dry white cloth, rotate the rug every 6–12 months, and have it professionally cleaned every one to two years. Never soak jute or hemp.
Everyday care
- Vacuum with suction only, or the beater bar raised. Vacuum flatweaves on both sides now and then.
- Rotate every 6–12 months so sun and foot traffic wear evenly.
- Use a rug pad. It stops slipping, protects the floor and extends the rug’s life.
- Shedding is normal for new wool rugs and settles after a few weeks of regular vacuuming.
- Loose loop or sprout? Snip it level with the pile with scissors. Never pull it.
Spills
- Blot — don’t rub — with a clean, dry white cloth, working from the outside in.
- For wool: dab with a little cool water and a mild wool-safe detergent, then blot dry.
- For jute and hemp: use as little moisture as possible and dry quickly; water can leave marks on plant fibers.
- Dry fully, with a fan if needed, before walking on it.
Deep cleaning
Use a professional cleaner experienced with handmade rugs every one to two years. Avoid steam cleaning and harsh chemicals.
